The Seattle Kraken and One Roof Foundation are proud to celebrate Lunar New Year Night with this specialty merchandise line featuring the work of local artist Monyee Chau.
Monyee (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and a community member from Chinatown International District. They are a part of the collective working at flower flower, a neighborhood arts “greenhouse” where community stories flourish and creative expression is nurtured, cultivated, and restored. They identify as Taiwanese and Chinese American. Monyee’s designs incorporate all the movement from the game of hockey into the lettering and numbers worn by the players. Reds and yellows are very prominent in Chinese culture, as both represent wealth and prosperity. The Lunar New Year primary logo incorporates movement through a jumping jade rabbit, backed by a full moon, and surrounded by a red ribbon inspired by traditional Chinese ribbon dancing. The Kraken Anchor incorporates the color and texture of the moon, and the anchor is surrounded by a red ribbon for luck.
